Modern farmhouse-style homes are losing popularity among Dianne Kett’s clientele. However, she is seeing a trend that may seem to be at odds with her Austin home: Northeast traditional. The 3400 sq. ft. home captures the charm of old homes. It also features modern architectural elements such as paneling and millwork with a New England style.

There are many design elements that prevent the house from falling into one category. You will find a white brick façade, large metal windows, an open-plan layout, extensive built-ins, ample storage space, and a seating area and integrated kitchen island.

The house includes a kitchen and scullery as well as a living and dining room. There are also three bedrooms (including one with a bunkroom), a laundry/mudroom and an upstairs children’s room. The floodplain encroachment on the property was a challenge. It also meant that the house had to be placed in a way that is most convenient for the street and daily use of the site. To allow for easy vehicle access, views of site and minimal tree disturbance, the design solution was to place the home east of the property.
